All,
I figure all great leaders are initally judged by what they did during their first 100 days, and with a name like Jack Barry, I figure our little Jack is a natural leader and needs to be judged on what he accomplished on his first 100 days (100 days old today...for reference, I am slightly over 10,000 days old and my dad is over 20,000 days old, nearing 3 trillion seconds old, and just turned 1/2 million hours old yesterday!!! www.timeanddate.com for those interested) Anyway...let's look at what Jack did or what I learned:
1) He can cause extreme weather: It snowed on May 1st, the day he came home, torentual rains flooded our basement 12 days later (Friday the 13th), and we suffered a minorly severe heat wave and drought in the month of July.....what I learned....snow sucks, heavy rain all flows to the lowest of 176 homes in the neighborhood (ours!), weeds are the only form of life that grow in temps above 80 degrees, and our energy bill is more than Jack's diaper bill...which is saying alot. Now...if I can just figure out how to use his dirty diapers to cool and heat our home...???
2) He helped us redo our basement and paint the outside of our home. It takes a leader to lead projects like that....what I learned...have your home painted by today's college kids during hot weather. That way, when they get too hot and get tired of working, they will most likely just finish your house and quit for the rest of the summer forgetting about the over $1000 worth of equipment still at our house 31 days later! We called twice and emailed twice and still no one. Needless to say, I am selling ladders to friends now for pretty decent money. And as for the basement...Service Master and Insurance companiesc an go to hel....
3)He smiles, laughs, giggles, shouts, rolls over both ways, and sleeps through the night. I would like to say he is advanced because he did most of this at 2 months, but when you are off the chart at both length and weight (27 in, 18.5 lbs), I am not really sure he is only 100 days old....what I learned....this kid eats alot and tells us loudly when he wants fed. He is extremly happy during and after eating. With school starting up, I am thinking of having my students weigh the milk and then the diaper to prove an ancient law wrong: "Matter cannot be created". With 6 oz. going in and about a gallon coming out all sorts of openings, I disagree!
4) He has visited multiple places: a Casino on the Fourth of July, closed down a bar, saw two movies in movie theatres, been to a party, hosted a party, been to K.C/Council Bluffs/Missouri Valley/Sioux City, to an I-Cubs game, to more restaurants than I can count, and lately...to school about 3 times a week!...what I have learned....he loves to travel in his SUV despite the $30 of gas it needs often! He isn't much into gambling, drinking, or movies yet...which has me concerned but hopefully that will change in about 21 years. He sleeps most places we go which tends to be good....especially in church. Then again, his Grampy sleeps in church, during movies, and while drinking too...so we don't see this changing anytime soon.
Well...it has been an eventful 100 days for us and Jack has been a blessing and a great baby. He currently is laughing at Reagan "fake-sneezing". The cats like him, we like him, and since 6 weeks are up, we can't return him...so looks like we got him for the next 30,000 days or so. Hope all of you enjoy the rest of the summer....with school starting soon, mylife is over as I know it for about 9 months. Take care!
Love&Prayers,
Ben
